The Unending Rope

Dirty dishes in the sink, books scattered on the floor, Another morning starts before I step outside the door. I carry all the heavy weight, I work and clean and mend, A three-year cycle spinning around with no end in sight. I used to find a rhythm, I used to find the verse, Now every daily boundary feels more like a curse. **(Chorus)** It’s an unending rope that has pulled me under deep, Too many tears I have held inside that I cannot even weep. I give away my days, I give away my mind, Searching for a trace of peace I can no longer find. I’m running on empty in a house full of noise, Trying to stay grounded through my girls and my boys. **(Verse 2)** Questions from across the sea, standards up so high, Every time I try to rest, I’m asked the reason why. Caregiving for the family, spending all my hours, Working till my hands are dry and losing all my power. They take the money that I earn, they take the breath I draw, And leave me standing quietly against a broken wall. **(Bridge)** I used to be a poet, I used to write the song, Now I’m just trying to survive and keep moving along. I want my kids to grow up safe, I want to see them smile, But I need someone to hold me, even just for a little while. I don't need perfection, I don't need the test, I just need a moment where my spirit gets to rest. **(Outro)** The clutter on the floor can wait, the laundry on the line, I am still a person here, and my soul is still mine. Breathe in the quiet, let the heavy burdens drop, Even when the world demands, I am allowed to stop.
